To my knowledge this banjo retains all of it’s original parts, with the exception of the fifth peg. It has been played a lot through the years, as evidenced by the pics. The previous owner (now deceased) had this banjo in his possession for over 45 years.
I’ve posted a great many pictures to show the overall condition and originality of the instrument. In case I’ve missed something that you’d like to see, please feel free to contact me.
If you know anything about these old RB-150’s, then you probably know how rare they are. There probably aren’t many left that haven’t been altered significantly in some way. From the info I’ve gathered, only 53 of these banjos were shipped in 1957.
This one would be a great candidate for restoration or conversion. After doing some minor set-up work after these pics were taken, I found this banjo to be very playable as-is. Personally, I’d keep it with the original hoop ring too, but that’s just me. :^) This banjo has all the “old” sound anyone could ask for in a post-war era Gibson.
