Description

1954 Gibson RB-250 banjo with unknown FON.  Associated with the great Allen Shelton.

One of the reasons the site owner loves RB-250 bowtie 4-hole archtops from the 1950s is Allen Shelton.  If someone knows the FON and has any detailed photos of his banjo, please share if possible.

What Allen had to say about his RB-250 in Peter Wernick’s and Tony Trischka’s Masters of the 5-String Banjo, page 141: “It’s a RB-250, raised head, same old one” (…) “I think I bought it in ’53 or ’54, somewhere along in there. It was one of the first ones to be made, I think, the way I was told, after Gibson started back making Mastertones”.
